Joburg’s latest venue, bar and nightclub brings elegant clubbing to Rivonia

Joburg’s thirst for an after dark paradise has been answered with the opening of Eden, the sumptuous new venue, bar and nightclub. Cradled at the top of the Rivonia Junction at the corner of Mutual and Rivonia Boulevard in Rivonia, Eden treated the country’s most desirable to a taste of its forbidden pleasures as it opened its doors for an exclusive launch last night.

IT girls Poppy Ntshongwana, Pearl Thusi, Boitumelo Thulo and Dineo Moeketsi sashayed around the 800 capacity club while you could be forgiven for mistaking Carly Fields and Carmel Fisher for modern day Eves. Ladies searching for their ultimate Adam would’ve been pleased with dashing Mr South Africa, Andrew Govender, or the hunky tribe of Bar-One contestants, while fashion kings Gert Johan Coetzee and Craig Jacobs of Fundudzi, musical talents Da Les, DJ Milkshake and Pixie Bennett, and Joburg’s celebrity party cruisers Kuli Roberts, Jennifer Su, Roxy Burger, Tumi Voster and Mika Stefano all added pizazz to the impressive guest list.

With decadent canapés served, the night was opened by MC Jason Greer who introduced one of the country’s hottest acts, the spunky Toya Delazy, who thrilled the crowd with hits from her debut album Due Drop like the radio- favourites “Love Is In The Air” and “Pump It On”.

Spanning three bars, VIP areas and an opulent garden setting with outdoors four poster beds, Eden boasts a state of the art lighting and sound technology to make it the ultimate party venue. The opulent club has been delightfully designed with the tree-lined outside garden leading past walnut walls and tree-trunks onto curving booths that range from intimate two seaters to more expansive 20-seaters – all offering bottle service. Eden will be open on Friday and Saturday nights with resident deejays Floyd, Small Paul and Chris Beats ensuring nights of elegantly clubbing.

Congrats to one of my greatest friend, Thulane Hadebe, for throwing this amazing event that I, unfortunately, could not make. Proud of you, honey-boo-boo child!

Usher’s New Album:Seven–time Grammy Award winner Usher will release his eagerly anticipated seventh studio album, LOOKING FOR MYSELFon June 12th (RCA Records).

The genre-defying lead single from LOOKING FOR MYSELF entitled "Climax," was written by Usher Raymond along with co-writers Redd Stylez, Ariel Rechtshaid, and Diplo, who also produced the single. “Climax” is receiving exceptional critical acclaim:Rolling Stone honored it with a 4 star review and calls it

“Sexxxxxxy.”Pitchfork declares "Climax" “an exercise in the power of restraint, as Usher sings the woes of a romance stuck in limbo, alternating whispery falsettos and earnestly pained howls….Diplo shows uncharacteristic subtlety behind Usher’s sentiment, with a beat that seems to hang suspended in midair.” The Los Angeles Times writes "Climax" “is rooted in pure soul, with Diplo employing sexy synths behind a dripping downbeat. Draw the curtains, light a candle and take a listen.” Perez Hilton exclaims “LOVE IT!! This song is a trance-y, smooth HIT!! USA Today describes“Climax” as “Usher’s pulsing new single showcasing his silky-strong tenor” and Entertainment Weekly highlights Usher’s “steaming-hot falsetto.

The video for “Climax” which premiered March 9th on VEVO with already over 5.8 million views was directed by Sam Pilling and is a dramatic, highly-suspenseful and attention-gripping visual stunner. Watch it here!

Usher is currently in the studio putting the finishing touches on LOOKING FOR MYSELF, working with a host of top-notch collaborators including Salaam Remi, Diplo, Rico Love, Jim Jonsin, and Max Martin, among others.

LOOKING FOR MYSELF comes on the heels of his two multi-platinum chart-topping collaborations “Without You” by David Guetta which held the #1 spot on the Pop charts and “Promise” with Romeo Santos which held the #1 spot on the Latin charts.

Usher has been ranked by the RIAA as one of the best-selling artists in American music history, having sold over 43 million albums worldwide. He has won numerous awards including seven Grammy Awards and was recently named the number one Hot 100 artist of the 2000s decade. Billboard named him the second most successful artist of the 2000s decade, with his career-propelling 2004 album Confessions being ranked as the top solo album of the 2000s decade. Usher has attained nine Hot 100 number-one hits (all as a lead artist) and has attained seventeen Hot 100 top-ten singles.

Toya delazy announces the release of her Debut album:  Due Drop, out on the 16th of April 16, 2012.

The 10 track debut ‘due drop’ will include the break through single ‘pump it on’ & follow up hit ‘love is in the air’.

Highly acclaimed new SA artist Toya Delazy will release her debut album through Sony Music Africa on 16 April, 2012. Due Drop includes seven tracks produced by one of most the creative production forces in the SA music industry, Jax Panik; and a further three songs produced by exciting Joburg based production duo Octave Couplet. Due Drop also includes ‘With You’, a duet with local a’capella sensations The Soil, as a bonus ‘Intro’ track to the album.

Based on the success of the album’s first two singles ‘Pump It On’ & ‘Love Is In the Air’, Due Drop looks set to raise the bar for locally produced ALBUMS. Playlisted immediately on SA national youth station 5FM in October 2011, the gritty pop anthem ‘Pump It On’ has been added on all major SA radio formats, appealing to both urban and contemporary audiences, and broke new crossover ground when it was added to SA National Urban format station Metro FM. With over 1400 plays since its launch, ‘Pump it On’ quickly made its way into the Top 10 of both local and international chart shows, and continues to impact.

The impact “Pump It On’ has made at SA radio has been helped in part by the success of the music video – now at over 59,000 YouTube views and climbing. Conceptualized and shot by Star Productions - director Tristan Holmes and Producer Adam Thal – the video has taken South African music videos to the next level with high rotations on key Pan-African Music Channels Channel O, MTV Base & Trace TV.

Similarly, second single ‘Love Is In the Air’ is climbing the 5FM Top40 (currently #19) and has been added across regional radio country wide. The video, which went straight onto high level rotations on Channel O, MTV Base & Trace TV last week, will premier online with VEVO from March 23. Conceptualised & directed by Justine Puren for Velocity Films, the video captures the vibrant, colourful and youthful essence of the track.

Fans of the first two singles will not be disappointed with what Due Drop offers musically. The powerful production and boisterous songwriting is a trademark throughout, with the gritty anthemia of ‘Pump It On’ referenced again in the rocking ‘Heart’ and the massively produced ‘Yeah Hell Yeah (With You)’. The post-intro album opener ‘Are You Gonna Stay?’ is a personal introduction from the artist herself and ‘Jai Lover’ sees Delazy singing in isiZulu over a deep house groove. The moving ballads ‘Love Takes Time’ and ‘Memoriam’ remind listeners of the piano playing singer-songwriter Toya started out as and the Octave Couplet produced ‘It’s All Good’ has definite hip-hop roots.

Says Toya: “I am ecstatic to finally be dropping an album…fans are in for a celebration, I can promise you a winning high with J.E.H.P. (Jazz Electro Hip Pop) - custom made to funk you from cradle to grave. It’s about to get charming!”

The striking photographs that make up the album artwork were conceptualized and shot by acclaimed Joburg based photographer Ross Garrett. Most well known for his recent images of the ‘Die Antwoord’, Garrett jumped at the opportunity to shoot Toya Delazy and created a visual aesthetic that perfectly matches the music & personality of the artist.

Signed to Sony Music Africa in 2011, the talented young singer-songwriter Toya Delazy trained as a jazz pianist but Toya’s more recent influences lie somewhere between the more contemporary genres of Hip Hop, Electro, Dance, Alternative and Pop.

Toya describes the single ‘Pump It On’ as a representation of living “life in the fullest” and is “a message you can carry in your heart to push you through till the beat stops…” This is a philosophy that caught the attention of Reebok South Africa and Toya Delazy was named Reebok Brand Ambassador for 2012.

One of her break through moments of 2011 came in the form of a solo performance at the 2011 Africa Concert, filmed live in Johannesburg and broadcast across the continent. Toya’s biggest live performance to date saw her share the stage with Baba Maal, Habib Koite, The Mohotela Queens & Tumi and The Volume. “It was an amazing moment in my life,” she says “from the Winston Pub in Durban to an International stage was. It felt priceless.”
